        Mother’s love

One evening before the mid-term examination, I walked along        1

the road feeling quite unhappy because I hadn’t do well in the exam.       2

I left home without saying nothing, for I didn’t want to tell my mother      3

about the poor marks. Walking in the street, I felt tears down from         4

my eyes. At that time, it began to rain. Suddenly I heard my name

called from behind. It sounded as my mother’s voice. I turned around       5

at once. I saw mother came up to me with an umbrella in her hand. She     6

asked me anxiously, “Why didn’t you go home? What has happened,       7

my dear?” Feeling very ashamed, I began to cry, I told her about the        8

exam. To my surprise, mother didn’t blame me, instead of she said gently,   9

“It doesn’t matter. My dear. A failure doesn’t mean anything. You have to

believe yourself. So try again and you’ll succeed.”                      10

Colour is especially important because of its powerful effect on our feelings. For this reason, colours are sometimes called hot, cold or neutral(中性的). Red and yellow are said to be hot colours because they make a room feel warmer and make the walls seem nearer to us .than they really are. We say that blue and green are cold because they give us the opposite feeling—the room feels cooler and the walls seem to be farther away. A neutral colour is one that does not seem to affect(影响)our feelings. Brown and grey are both neutral and they may also be mixed with hot or cold colours to reduce their effect on our feelings.

Hello, listeners. Welcome to Henton Hospital Radio. Before our music programme at four, I’m going to repeat some of our hospital rules.

The hospital can sleep 800 patients. There’re 8 beds in each ward(病房). The visiting hours are in the afternoon from 2:30 to 3:30 and in the evening from 7:00 to 8:00. But remember only two people can see you at the same time. Sorry about that, but you can see what would happen if we didn’t have these rules.

The other rules are about our hours. We start quite early — you might not be used to that. We wake you at 6 o’clock, and breakfast is at 8 o’clock, lunch is at noon. There’re tea at 3:30 p.m. and supper is at 6 p.m.

You can see the no smoking sign— we don’t allow smoking in the wards. I’m sure you understand why. However, if you do need to smoke, there are some smoking  rooms where it is allowed.

You will find the radio switch(开关) on the wall near your bed, with your own headphones, if you want to listen. It’s our own hospital radio wishing you a quick recovery(康复).

Jack and Rose drift in the black water, Jack is dinging at the price of wood that Rose is lying on.

Jack: I don’t know about you, but I intend to write a strongly worded letter to the White Star Line about all this.

Rose: I love you, Jack.

Jack: Don’t you do that. Don’t you say your good-byes. Not yet. Do you understand  me?

Rose: I’m so cold.

Jack: Listen, Rose. You’re going to get out of here. You’re going to have a lot of babies and you’re going to watch them grow and you’re going to die an old lady, warm in your bed. Not here. Not this night. Not like this. You understand me?

Rose: I can’t feel my body.

Jack: Winning that ticket was the best thing that ever happened to me. It brought me to you. And I’m thankful for that, Rose. I’m thankful. You must do me this honor. You promise me that you will survive… that you won’t give up… no matter what happens … no matter how hopeless. Promise me now. Rose, and never let go of that promise.

Rose: I promise.
