There are mainly two kind of shopping store in the U.K: neighbourhood corner shop and large retailers. Britain used to be described for “a nation of shopkeepers.” The neighbourhood corner shop used to sell everything which a housewife needed and the shopkeeper was an important person in the local community. The shop itself was a focus of community life, a place to chat as well as shop, in the days that the British   knew their local baker(面包店主), local grocer and local butcher in personally.

However, shopping patterns changed dramatically in 1970s and 1980s and the customers changed too. This change has called the “High Street Revolution.” The development of transportation and the increase of car owners make possible to travel further for shopping. Shops began to get bigger and the owners opened much branches in different towns.
