见识英语中的“美”

1．在英语中，beauty指“美”，系抽象名词。如：

We enjoy the beauty of nature. 我们欣赏自然的美。

A thing of beauty is a joy for ever. 美的东西是永远的欢乐。

Love beauty; it is the shadow of God on the universe. 爱美吧，它是上帝在宇宙中的影子。

Beauty and honesty seldom agree. 美貌和忠诚很难集于一身。

2．英语中含“美”的谚语也很多。如：

Beauty and folly are often compainies. 美与蠢，常作伴。

Beauty draws more than oxen. 美的力量大于牛。

Beauty is but a blossom. 美丽只是一朵花。

Beauty is but skin-deep. 美丽只是外表罢了。（指不能以貌取人。）

Beauty is in the heart of the beholder.  情人眼中出西施。

Beauty is potent, but morality is omnipotent. 美貌固有力，道德力更大。

Beauty may have fair leaves, yet bitter fruit. 金玉其外，败絮其中。

Beauty will buy no beef. 美貌买不到牛排。（漂亮不能当饭吃。）
