Fleetwood Mac's McVie Returns with In The Meantime

As part of legendary classic rock band Fleetwood Mac, Christine McVie wrote some of their biggest hits. In 1998, she shocked fans by announcing her retirement from the group. Christine McVie is making a return to the music business with her new album In The Meantime.

Joining Fleetwood Mac in 1970 as a singer and keyboard player, Christine McVie wrote some of the band's biggest hits, such as "Don't Stop," "You Make Lovin' Fun," and "Little Lies." During her tenure, the group sold more than 55 million albums worldwide.

Starting out as a blues singer in her teens, Christine played with the Spencer Davis Group, Chicken Shack and other British groups before joining Fleetwood Mac. She was married to the band's bass player, John McVie.

In 1998, exhausted from decades of touring, Christine decided to retire from the band, and retreated to the English countryside. Former bandmate Mick Fleetwood remarked, "Her heart was always in the music, but she didn't have her heart in what comes with it." She last performed with Fleetwood Mac at the Brit Awards in 1998, where the band was given a Lifetime Achievement Award for their contribution to rock music history. Christine has officially ended her retirement with "In Then Meantime," her first official solo work in 20 years.

In The Meantime was co-produced by Christine's nephew, Dan Perfect, who comments, "She sounds as young as she does on Fleetwood Mac's Rumours album." Christine and Dan created the music in a converted barn on the grounds of her manor house in England. "The record was made under no pressure. There were no people breathing down our necks, no road crew and no managers," she said.

Christine admits that her new album contains the most autobiographical music that she has created in her career. She says, "Normally, I would step into other people's shoes or into imaginary scenarios. These songs were written about somebody specific. They're about a guy I was seeing and it didn't work out." British music magazine Mojo states, "Christine McVie leaves no doubt that she's shut the door on her past. The songs crackle with ire, indignation and with none of the self-deception of the past." Christine joined the members of Fleetwood Mac at their induction into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, and has attended some of their concerts, but has chosen not to make any on-stage appearances. She's just launched her official website, ChristineMcVie.com, but there's no word yet about a possible solo tour.
