近日，国家科学技术奖励大会在北京人民大会堂举行，中国科学院院士谷超豪和孙家栋荣膺国家最高科技奖，奖金额为500万元人民币。该奖自2000年设立以来，已有16位科学家获奖。

The nation's top science and technology award for 2009 has been presented to two scientists who have made great contributions to the country's space development.

2009年度国家最高科技奖颁发给了在中国航天发展事业中功勋卓著的两位科学家。

文中的top science and technology award就是指“最高科技奖”，每年授予人数不超过两人。此次获奖的两位科学家都是space pioneers（航天领域的先驱）。经过awards committee（评奖委员会）的评审，被称为Father of Satellites（卫星之父）的孙家栋和为space industry（航天工业）做出巨大贡献的谷超豪获得了本年度奖项。

近年来，我国在航天事业上取得巨大进步，开展了lunar exploration program（探月工程）和manned space program（载人航天计划）。我国宇航员也进行了首次spacewalk（太空行走）。

此外，remote sensing satellite（遥感卫星）、geosynchronous satellite（同步人造卫星）等的制造和发射技术也有了进一步提高。
