    be afraid 是口语，意思是“恐怕”。I'm afraid是一种表示委婉歉意的说法，相当于I'm sorry, but…，它有以下几种用法：
    （1）当你想对别人的询问作出有礼貌的否定答复时，可用I'm afraid…例如：
    —Would you like to help me with my lessons? —帮我学功课好吗？
    —Sorry. I'm afraid I have no time at the moment. —很抱歉，恐怕目前我没时间。
    （2）如果你不得不告诉别人不能做某事时，也可以用I'm afraid…开头。例如：
    Excuse me. I'm afraid you can't smoke here.对不起，你不能在这里吸烟。
    （3）如果你对某句话或某个问题作肯定的回答，可以用I'm afraid so.反之，则用I am afraid not.例如：
    —Do you think he'll come here tomorrow? —你认为他明天会来吗？
