    (1) 表示过去的动作或状态，常与表示过去时间的状语一起使用。如：yesterday, last night, last week, two days ago, a week ago, in 1998, in the 19th century, then, just now等。例如：
    I watched a live football match last night. 昨晚我看了一场现场直播的球赛。
    I went swimming two days ago. 两天前我去游泳了。
    (2) 表示过去一段时间内经常发生的动作或行为。有时也可用used to do或would do来表示。例如：
    When he was a boy, he used to / would go skating every winter. 他小的时候每年冬天都去滑冰。
    There used to be an old cinema at the end of the street. 过去在街道的尽头有一家老电影院。
    (3) 在时间状语从句或条件状语从句中，常使用一般过去时表示过去将来时。例如：
    She had to wait until her husband came back. 她不得不一直等到丈夫回来。
    They said they would inform me if they heard any news. 他们说他们有消息就通知我。
