    (1) 表示“许可、可以”，用于口语中，can和may可以相互替换。例如：
    May (Can) I use your mobile phone? 我可以用一下你的手机吗？
    You can (may) go now. 你现在可以走了。
    (2) can / could还可以表示请求，用could语气更加委婉。例如：
    Could you pass me the newspaper on the shelf, please? 请递给我书架上的那张报纸好吗？
    Could you please tell me your name? 请告诉我你的名字好吗？
    注意：这时简略答语要使用原形。例如：
    —Could I have a look at your new photos?
    —Yes, you can.
    (3) can, could表示“能、会”。例如：
    Can you work out the physics problem? 你能算出这道物理题吗？
    The girl is only five, but she can read newspapers. 女孩虽然仅有五岁，但她能读懂报纸。
    (4) may, might表示“可能、或许”。例如：
    —Where is Annie? 安妮在哪？
    —Sorry, I don't know. She may be in the library. 对不起，我不知道。她有可能在图书馆。
    (5) 在表示“推测”的句子中，can't, couldn't意思是“不可能”；may not, might not意思是“可能不，可能没有，或许不，或许没有”。例如：
    —Someone is knocking at the door. Who can it be?
    —It may be our brother who is back home from work. （可能是）
    —It can't be he because he told me he wouldn't come back at noon.（不可能是）
    —Who can it be then?
    —It may be our father. He is always forgetful. He may have come back for his key.
    —It can not be he. He looked for it just now. （或许不是）
