近日，武广高铁客运专线隧道施工大量抽排地下水，引发广州市白云区金沙洲多处小区地面塌陷。据悉，广州市已向武广客运专线索赔，经商定，赔偿数额为3000多万元，赔款将用于受灾房屋的修葺和受灾居民的善后安置。

自武广高速铁路开工建设以来，金沙洲住宅区已上报十余起地面塌陷事故。

文中的earth's surface sinking就是指“地面塌陷”，也称为earth sinking。此次事故源于在Guangzhou-Wuhan express railway（武广高铁）施工过程中的over-extraction of groundwater（过度抽排地下水），造成water table（地下水位）的下降。此次事故还导致居民住宅出现walls cracking（墙体开裂）和peeling off of interior wall（内墙墙皮脱落）。

Earth's surface sinking（地面塌陷）属于一种geology disaster（地质灾害）。此外，ground fissure/fracture（地裂缝）、landslide（滑坡）、mudslide（泥石流）、water and soil erosion（水土流失）、land desertification（土地沙漠化）、land salinization（土地盐碱化）等都属于geology disasters。
