你平时吃过亏吗？“吃亏”用英语又怎么说呢？在口语里我们常用to get the short end of the stick来表达吃亏的意思。

End就是末端，stick就是一根棍子。To get the short end of the stick，作为俗语，它的意思就是：你在某一件事上吃了亏。中文里，“亏”与“盈”相对，表示的是没有占到便宜、没有捞到好处。英文中，“短的一头”与“长的一头”相对，据说，这种表达方式来源于拔河比赛，输的一方手里握着绳子短的一头。而习语后半部分的stick是随着时间的演变加上去的。

我们来举一个例子就能说明这个习惯用语的真正含义。一个人跟其他两个朋友合伙做生意。但是他最后损失了很多钱。你听了他讲的话就会知道是怎么回事了。他说：
