不交赞助费，读书没商量？这条教育潜规则将被打破。今后在义务教育阶段，非京籍和京籍学生将享受同城待遇，都可以免试就近入学。

With the new policy, non-native students are exempted from sponsorship fees - set at around 10,000 yuan annually. This means they will also have access to compulsory education for free.

根据新政策，非京籍学生不再需要缴纳赞助费，之前赞助费的缴纳标准大约为每年一万元。这意味着非京籍学生今后也可以在京接受免费义务教育。

文中的sponsorship fee就是指“赞助费”。入学，甚至入托时交sponsorship fee已经成为公开的秘密。正因为此，很多non-native students（非京籍学生）无法就读public schools（公立学校），而无奈选择private schools（私立学校），同时也给孩子留下了低人一等的心理阴影。

受益于此次政策的包括一些跟随家长来京的migrant child（随迁/农民工子女）。此前，北京还专门为农民工子女建立schools for the children of migrant workers（打工子弟学校）。

孩子跨学区就读所缴纳的费用被称为school-choosing/school selection fee（择校费）。义务教育阶段适龄儿童到非户籍地区入学缴纳的temporary/ transient students fee “借读费”已被取消。为了免交这些费用，有些家长干脆购买了school district housing（学区房）。
