“Katie bar the door”源于一首风趣搞笑的苏格兰民歌“Get up and bar the door”（《起床来把门闩上》）。歌中唱道：就寝前，夫妻二人比着不上门闩，最后夫妻俩决定，谁先开口说话谁就起身去拴门。两个人就这么紧绷嘴唇较上了劲儿，谁知半夜盗贼乘虚而入，不但劫财劫物，还对这对“哑巴”夫妻实施许多恶行。后来，丈夫忍无可忍终于厉声质问盗贼，Katie（妻子）就在这时开了腔：“你输了，去上门闩”。
