人的一生会遇到很多悬而未决的事，比如大学能否考取、演讲比赛能否拿名次、生意的单子是否能签、投标是否能中……这种还不知道结果的事在英语中叫“a toss-up”。

“A toss-up”这种说法是从扔硬币做决定那里引申而来。有的人在拿不定主意的时候，会扔硬币决定，正面就做，反面不做。当硬币还没落地的时候，做与不做都各有一半的可能，也就是悬而未决。
