Catch-22（《第二十二条军规》）是1961年Joseph Heller以战争为背景所写的小说。书中提到，在军中有一条规定，军人必须是“精神异常”才能申请免役，但有趣的是，如果能主动申请免役，又怎么可能是“精神异常”呢？所以catch-22就用来形容这种“进退两难，两面不讨好”的困境。

如果说identity dilemma（身份困境）是在身份定位方面有些进退两难的话，那么identity crisis（身份危机）的情况则更加严重，处于这种状态的人或组织为自身没有一个清晰的定位，以致于所有的决定和行为都显得有些混乱。
