文中的secondary geological hazards就是指“次生地质灾害”，由于是由primary disaster（原生灾害）所引发的，因此属于一种secondary disaster（次生灾害），比如地震后出现的quake lake（堰塞湖）就属于seismic secondary disaster（地震次生灾害）。

许多natural disaster（自然灾害）发生后，常常诱发出一连串的其它灾害，这种现象叫灾害链。自然灾害发生之后，破坏了人类生存的和谐条件，由此还可以导生出一系列其它灾害，这些灾害泛称为derivative disasters（衍生灾害）。如大旱之后，地表与浅部淡水极度匮缺，迫使人们饮用深层含氟量较高的地下水，从而导致了氟病，这些都称为衍生灾害。
