今年夏季，不少城市面临罕见高温考验，一份成都城市热岛效应遥感研究显示，成都热岛效应愈演愈烈，城区内外温差最高可达8摄氏度。也许你会感到奇怪，一些纬度并不低的城市在夏季总是高温不断，专家经研究后发现，“热岛效应”是引发城市持续高温的元凶之一。

According to the latest statistics from the China Meteorological Administration, about one-fourth of the temperature rise caused by climate warming can be blamed on the "urban heat island effect." Other phenomena resulting from urbanization include dry islands, wet islands, dark islands and rain islands in cities.

根据中国气象局的最新统计，在气候变化导致的气温上升中，大约有1/4是由城市热岛效应导致的。城市化导致的其它现象包括干岛效应、湿岛效应、混浊岛效应和雨岛效应。

文中的urban heat island effect就是指“城市热岛效应”，也称为tropical island effect，指的是城市气温明显高于外围郊区的现象。城市人口集中，工业发达，交通拥塞，大气污染严重，建筑密集等等都是形成这一现象的原因。在这一现象下，城市中更容易出现convective weather（对流天气）。

除了urban heat island effect，城市化的发展还使城市成为了dry islands（干岛，降水偏少的城区）、wet islands（湿岛，降水偏多的城区）、dark islands（混浊岛，城市大气混浊度高于郊区）以及rain islands（雨岛，暴雨最大强度的落点位于市区及其下风方向），统称为“五岛效应”。
