安徽省铜陵市海螺公司于本月建成首条水泥窑垃圾处理系统，每年可处理城市生活垃圾约20万吨，节约标煤可达1.3万吨，减排二氧化碳约3万吨。

在上面的报道中，municipal solid waste即“城市固体废物”。固体废物是指人们在生产建设、日常生活和其他活动中产生的、对产生者来说是不能用或暂时不能用、抛弃后会污染环境的固态、半固态的废弃物质。按照城市固体废物产生的原因，可将其分为industrial solid waste（工业固体废物）、dangerous solid waste（危险固体废物）、clinical waste（医疗废物）和municipal domestic waste（城市生活垃圾）四类。

对于recoverable garbage（可回收垃圾），我们可以进行renewable resource recycling（可再生资源回收），对于unrecoverable garbage（不可回收垃圾），我们可以进行waste incineration（垃圾焚烧），并将焚烧产生的能量用于发电。
